How to set up My Health Record online
For secure and convenient access to your health information anywhere, anytime.
Follow the steps below to set up your record online.
If you’re trying to set up my health app and haven’t accessed My Health Record before, follow all 3 steps below before setting up my health.
If you’re not eligible for Medicare or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) benefits, find out how to set up a record without Medicare or DVA benefits.
Step 1. Link My Health Record to myGov
To access My Health Record, you need a myGov account. myGov is a secure way to access Australian Government services online.
Sign in to myGov
If you don’t have a myGov account, select Create account and follow the steps to create an account.

If you're having trouble setting up a myGov account, call the myGov helpdesk:
- from within Australia on 13 23 07, select option 1.
- from outside Australia on +61 1300 1MYGOV (+61 1300 169 468), select option 1.
The myGov helpdesk is available at the following times:
Monday - Friday 7am to 10pm AEST
Saturday - Sunday 10am to 5pm AEST
- myGov
- Select view and link services.
- Select Link on the My Health Record tile.
Step 2. Verify your identity
My Health Record uses details from Medicare to verify your identity. Linking to My Health Record is easier if you’ve already linked Medicare to myGov. If Medicare is linked, it will be listed under linked services.

If you’ve already linked Medicare to myGov, we’ll use your Medicare details to verify you. Go to Step 3.
Note: If Medicare is already linked to your myGov account and you’re still having trouble linking to My Health Record, unlink the My Health Record service then link it again. Alternatively, call the My Health Record help line on 1800 723 471 and speak with a representative to verify your identity.

You'll be asked how you want to link My Health Record. You can choose to use your Medicare record or an access code, if you have one. Follow the prompts to continue.
You'll need your Medicare card number and to answer some questions specific to you.
You'll need to answer the questions correctly to pass the identity check. If you don’t know the answer to a question, you can skip that question and try the next one.
If you prefer to speak to someone to verify your identity, call the help line on 1800 723 471.
Step 3. Access and set up My Health Record
At the Welcome to My Health Record screen, select the record you want to access.
Follow these steps to set up your record.
- Choose the Medicare information you want included in your record, such as visits to your doctor, prescriptions information, immunisations and your organ donor decisions.
- Check your profile details and update if needed. Note: information provided by Services Australia cannot be edited using My Health Record. To change these details, please contact Services Australia on 132 011.
- Add emergency contacts, next of kin and carer details.
- Add any allergies or adverse reactions and medicines to your personal health summary.
- Choose when to receive notifications, such as when someone accesses your record.
If you want to control who can see your health information, you can:
- set a record access code to control which healthcare organisations can access your record
set a Limited Document Access Code to control access to your restricted documents.
The first time you sign into My Health Record, there may not be much information in it. Next time you see your GP, nurse or specialist, remember to ask them to upload a summary of your visit to My Health Record.
