SNOMED CT‑AU and Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT) May 2019

The National Clinical Terminology Service (NCTS) is pleased to announce that the May combined release of SNOMED CT® AU¹ and the Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT) is now available to registered users from the NCTS website.

The Release Note is provided alongside the combined RF2 release files which are available as Full, Snapshot and Delta, in addition to the traditional combined release bundle (labelled "ALL"). To access the Release Note and download the RF2 files, select SNOMED CT-AU > Release Bundles from the ACCESS tab.

The reference sets are available in TSV format (containing pre-computed values for concept IDs, Fully Specified Name, Preferred Term and Synonym description only) and as HL7™FHIR® standard² value sets (which may also be obtained via the integration interface of the National Terminology Server). To download the reference sets, select SNOMED CT-AU > Reference Sets from the ACCESS tab.

Quick Tips

Do you ever need just a simple format of the terminology to easily review a particular set of terms, e.g. adverse reaction types, procedures or medicinal products? The TSV files are the perfect solution! The ability to import a data file into the application of your choice e.g. MS Excel, is the only technical knowledge required. Each row contains the ID, fully specified name, preferred term and synonyms for every active concept of a particular reference set.

If using MS Excel, please follow the instructions on the download page to avoid inadvertently creating concept ID and description errors on import. You can search for and download the TSV files from here, after logging into the NCTS website. Viewing or double-clicking each reference set will display further information about the reference set.

The 2019 webinar series is continuing in June with the following topics:

SNOMED CT-AU and AMT subsets: Tuesday 4 June 2019, 10am to 11am AEST.
This webinar will go through an introduction to subsets; provide examples of subsets available from the NCTS and how to access them; and show how subsets can be implemented at a high level.

Principles of Mapping: Tuesday 18 June 2019, 2pm to 3pm AEST.
This webinar will go through an overview of mapping; give an example of mapping methodology; discuss considerations before starting the mapping process; provide examples and implications of using maps; and special tips when mapping to SNOMED CT-AU and the AMT.

Snapper:Map – creating maps to SNOMED CT-AU: Thursday 20 June 2019, 2pm to 3pm AEST.
This webinar will provide an overview of the features of Snapper:Map; creating a new map and importing source data; how to use the Automap feature; workflow for reviewing mapped rows; and mapping maintenance and other tips.

All SNOMED CT AU and AMT documentation, including technical and implementation guides, is freely available for download from the NCTS Document Library without registering or logging in. However, if you are a registered user we recommend that you log in before downloading any material so that we can better target our communications to you, based on the resources that you have downloaded.
